Corporate Social Responsibility

At Haas F1 team, we’re building a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program comprised of work across both the environmental and the social aspects of sustainability, which is on track to grow into a robust sustainability strategy in the future.

Charity partnership

We’re proud to be working with Starlight Children’s Foundation in the USA, to provide support and respite to seriously ill children and their families in hospital.

Founded in 1982, Starlight was formed with a mission to deliver happiness to seriously ill children and their families, working with over 800 children’s hospitals across America. Since its inception, the charity has positively impacted 21 million children and continues to work tirelessly to bring joy and comfort to those receiving treatment.

Together, we’re working on multiple synergies to support the charity’s agenda. At US race events, personnel, including drivers and key representatives, will visit children’s hospitals in local areas, and at highlight races the team will host an exclusive program for children receiving treatment and their families to come to a race for an unforgettable experience away from the hospital.

“Haas F1 Team has a platform to raise awareness and highlight the incredible work of those that rely on the support of others to operate, and I feel we have a duty to do more,” noted Guenther Steiner, Team Principal of Haas F1 Team.

“I’m really proud of our partnership with Starlight and am excited about how we can help them achieve their goals across multiple areas of the charity – together, we’re committed to creating positive experiences for seriously ill children.”

FIA Environmental Accreditation

We achieved FIA Two-Star Environmental Accreditation in the FIA framework in December 2021, ahead of the June 2022 deadline set for teams by the FIA.

Two-Star Accreditation indicates good environmental practice, meaning we’ve been able to demonstrate good environmental practice on track and at our UK-based facilities. As part of our goal to understand our environmental impact we have also calculated our carbon footprint baseline which has been included in our ESOS and SECR reports.

Since achieving Two-Star Accreditation, we’ve begun working towards the next step for achieving FIA Three-Star Environmental Accreditation. This work includes establishing a carbon reduction plan, as well as focusing on reduction plans for three key areas of waste management, energy and water consumption.

Energy and water usage

One of our targets is to reduce energy usage on site, hence the team has been working to monitor energy usage, as well as begun to replace lights with LED bulbs where possible and install sensor-activated lighting.

As of September 1, 2022, our HQ in Banbury is powered by 100% renewable energy.

Energy use is reported at regular intervals through the Energy Savings Opportunities Scheme (ESOS).

Lastly, water consumption is being monitored on site with a reduction target having been set for the future.

Sustainable clothing supplier

A testament to our commitment to working with suppliers that can help achieve our sustainability objectives is the choice of our team kit supplier, Tricorp. They have been providing our team with a fully circular clothing package made of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles since 2022 and are working towards a closed loop and transparent textile chain by 2024.

Providing paths into motorsport

We have also been involved in a number of purpose-driven initiatives, aimed at increasing access to our sport and promoting STEM education. The entire team across all sites is dedicated to sharing knowledge and providing inspiration to those who want to work in motorsport and those who may not have previously considered it an option available to them.

We work closely with the FIA Girls on Track UK program, supplying female staff at various events to speak with female students between the ages of eight and 18 about paths into motorsport, also sharing their own stories and experiences.

We also work with popular media site ‘Females in Motorsport’ to profile the female staff within Haas F1 team and shed a spotlight on their success, once again providing advice to those wanting to get into the industry.

In addition, throughout the year we offer work placement opportunities and conduct factory and site tours for school children from the local area at both the UK and US locations to showcase the opportunities within motorsport and potential jobs they may want to pursue in future.
